共同社报道，人之所以眨眼可能是为了对大脑进行"重置"，以便给后续活动做准备。研究报告发表在最新一期的PNAS上。
人通常每分钟眨眼15～20次，但如果只是为了使眼睛保持湿润，每分钟眨眼3～4次足矣，为何要频繁眨眼至今仍是未解之谜。研究人员让10名受试者观看英国的人气喜剧片《憨豆先生》，同时用核磁共振成像仪（fMRI）观察大脑中的活跃区域。结果发现，在眨眼的同时，人的大脑中对外界加以注意时活跃的区域会瞬间切换到想象等内省式思考时活跃的区域，之后又会立即还原。眨眼容易出现在影片情节的分隔点，且人们眨眼的时机也常会趋同。研究还发现，即使在影像中仿照眨眼时的景象插入一帧黑屏，大脑也不会出现活跃区域的切换。
