德国《明镜》周刊上周日表示，美国国家安全局(NSA)窃听欧盟机构，入侵欧盟计算机网络，在布鲁塞尔和美国的欧盟办公室里藏有美国的窃听监控装置。根据《卫报》公开的NSA机密文件，美国的监听技术代号为Dropmire，利用植入到欧盟驻华盛顿领事馆使用的加密传真设备Cryptofax中的设备去监听加密传真。Cryptofax被用于在欧盟外交部门和布鲁塞尔之间发送外交密电，它能将明文转变为密文。而NSA植入的Dropmire看起来并不是破解加密密钥，而是利用已有三十多年历史的技术Tempest，Tempest通过监测设备释放出的电能、机械能和声能去推断明文线索。Tempest窃听敏感内容的原理就是通信技术中的泄密发射(compromising emanations)。安全专家指出，NSA监听加密传真依赖的是所谓的边信道攻击，他们不需要去破解加密系统，This entry passed through the Full-Text RSS service — if this is your content and you're reading it on someone else's site, please read the FAQ at fivefilters.org/content-only/faq.php#publishers.
