纽约大学Stern商学院的Vasant Dhar认为，IBM的Watson自然语言问答系统能挑战Google的搜索王者地位。Watson于2011年在电视智力竞赛节目《危机边缘（Jeopardy!）》中轻松战胜了两位人类冠军。作者认为，如果用户可以在Watson和基于PageRank算法的搜索引擎中选择一个提问，多数人会选择Watson。Google正在为PageRank系统引入语义改进搜索结果，但Watson可以根据储存的信息解决问题，使用自然语言与用户沟通，它能创造新的知识，而Google仍然停留在信息检索阶段。
