Valve公布了Steam原型客厅主机的硬件细节。首批送给硬件beta测试者的300台原型将使用高端英特尔CPU和NVIDIA GPU，运行Valve定制的Linux操作系统SteamOS。这些机器的硬件规格略有差异，显卡包括NVidia Titan、GTX780、GTX760和GTX660，处理器则是基于Haswell的Intel i7-4770、i5-4570和i3，内存都是16GB DDR3-1600，显存3GB GDDR5，硬盘是1TB/8GB混合式硬盘。不同的硬件可以帮助更好的衡量性能和效果。Valve指出，这些硬件规格并非设计成为标准，用户可自行替换，它计划发布其定制主机的CAD文件。对Steam主机而言，关键还是GPU，在Linux平台上，NVidia显卡驱动要比AMD更稳定性能更好。
