AK-47步枪设计者卡拉什尼科夫(Михаил Тимофеевич Калашников)周一去世，享年94岁。他出生于南西伯利亚草原的一个农民家庭，没受过多少正规教育，是一位自学成才的枪械设计师。他设计的AK-47步枪以可靠性（埋在地下18年仍能使用）和低成本著称，是世界最流行最成功的轻武器。他在武器设计中的作用，加上苏联宣传机器的宣传，帮助他从一位红军士兵变为武器设计的高级工程师，并最终进入到立法机构最高苏维埃。因为没有授予专利，卡拉什尼科夫没有从AK-47步枪生产中获得多少经济利益，他被视为是苏联英雄。
