美国教育部下属机构国家教育统计中心网站3月22日在儿童专区"每日语录"一栏中引用毛泽东名言"对自己，'学而不厌'，对人家，'诲人不倦'（英文原文Our attitude towards ourselves should be 'to be satiable in learning' and towards others 'to be tireless in teaching）"，毛泽东被认为堪比希特勒，引用他的名言立即引发了争议和广泛的批评，网站随后删除了毛的名言，换成林肯。美国参议员表示，教育部必须解释为何引用"共产主义者"的话。教育部代理新闻秘书达伦·布里斯科称，"国家教育统计中心网站的儿童专区的'每日语录'栏目今天登出了的名言选得很糟糕，其本意是想强调教育和学习的重要性。这一专栏每天从我们2007年更新的数据库中自动生成一条与教育相关的警句。现在这一栏目已经暂停。我们正在核查数据库中的内容。"(图片来自flickr用户roberthuffstutter)
