《南华早报》报导，香港大学新闻及传媒研究中心助理教授傅景华主持的​​​​一项调查显示，新浪微博上94%的信息由大约一千万用户发送，另有大约两亿用户以"转发"为主。傅景华设计了一套自动程序，浏览数万个微博帐号，来确认这些帐号到底有没有人用过。调查发现，截至今年1月3日，这些微博帐号有58.8%从未发过信息。若以这个比率计算，估计在总数约5亿的微博帐号中，大约3亿都是这类空帐号。这些帐号从未发布过信息，或者曾经发过又被删除。傅景华观察真正发过微博信息的2.087亿个帐号，发现其中5%（即1040万个帐号）发布的信息占所有微博信息的93.8%。其余1.983亿用户基本上都在转发这5%核心用户的信息。This entry passed through the Full-Text RSS service — if this is your content and you're reading it on someone else's site, please read the FAQ at fivefilters.org/content-only/faq.php#publishers.
