浙江大学医学院附属第一医院联合香港大学等成功研发出人感染H7N9禽流感病毒疫苗株。项目领衔者、工程院院士李兰娟介绍，联合课题组于4月3日收到H7N9病例咽拭子样本，并成功分离获得H7N9禽流感病毒。随后通过反向遗传技术，以PR8质粒为病毒骨架，与自行分离的病毒株进行基因重排，并成功研制出H7N9流感疫苗种子株。为确保疫苗种子株的安全性，科研人员将种子株在无特殊病原体的鸡胚中连续传代15代，经测序证实遗传稳定，未发生变异。截至10月24日，我国共报道136例H7N9禽流感病毒感染病例，其中45例死亡，病死率高达33.1%。而科学研究也发现，H7N9病毒有可能越过种属，实现人与人之间的有效传播。
