Steam主机以与Xbox One相同的定价挑战现有的主机。定制个人电脑制造商 iBuyPower公开了它的Steam主机原型，比PlayStation 4大但比Xbox One小，预计将于明年上市，其配备的GPU要强于PS4和Xbox One使用的GPU。这款Steam主机采用了标准的Wi-Fi和蓝牙无线功能，500GB硬盘，多核 AMD CPU和 AMD Radeon R9 270显卡——该显卡售价180美元，Steam控制器，运行SteamOS。精确的硬件规格数据未知，如内存和CPU频率、核心数量。iBuyPower称，这款主机可以以1080p分辨率60fps运行Steam for Linux游戏，目前只有大约100款Steam for Linux游戏，比Windows游戏要少得多。
