2012年，Android平台病毒占所有移动恶意程序的79%；2013年，这个数字增加到了97%，但绝大多数Android恶意程序是在中国第三方应用商店流行。根据安全公司F-Secure的研究报告，Android恶意程序问题主要影响美国以外的国家和地区，第三方应用商店是恶意程序的主要来源，其中尤以中国的应用市场为最，因为中国被限制访问官方市场Google Play。报告称，机客网Android应用市场（Android159）三分之一的样本被归类为恶意程序，安智市场、木蚂蚁电子市场、百度应用市场和优亿市场近十分之一的样本是恶意程序。在F-Secure收集的样本中，Google Play的恶意程序比例最低，只有0.1%。
