《新闻周刊》刊登了一篇封面报道，宣称找到了比特币发明者中本聪。文章称，中本聪这个名字并不是化名，他的真名就叫中本聪，他并不住在日本，而是一名64岁的日裔美国人，曾在美国军方和大企业从事机密工作，爱好收集火车模型，目前住在加州的Temple市。中本聪拒绝回答记者与比特币有关的任何提问。中本聪的家人称他绝顶聪明，喜怒无常，极其重视隐私。他的日常生活中不使用本名， 在从加州州立理工大学毕业后，他改名为Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto，平常署名就署Dorian S.
