前NSA合同工Edward Snowden在SXSW上通过加密视频链路接受了采访，回答了观众和网友提问。Snowden谈及NSA监控对科技群体造成的冲击，以及运用科技帮助人们保护隐私的方法，认为端对端加密是反击全球被动监视的策略。他表示不后悔披露数千份秘密文件的决定，并称无论自己发生何种状况，亦会"再做一次"。Snowden批评说，NSA的秘密情报监控项目违反美国宪法，而美国国会两院议员非但没有对此问责，反而充当了NSA的"拉拉队长"。 他呼吁公众加强对秘密情报监控项目的监督，也加强对美国国会职能的监督。Snowden同时谴责了Google 和Facebook等公司的数据收集行为。他表示，为了获得广告收入，这些公司收集了过多的数据并长时间保存。Snowden指责NSA是在利用监控计划摧毁互联网的未来，称科技公司可以研发易用的隐私及加密软件，修补这一问题。
