Windows 8上市后的普及程度甚至低于Windows Vista的同期水平。根据Net Applications的统计，发布两个月后在所有Windows PC中Windows 8占有率仅仅为1.8%，而Vista的同期水平是2.2%。在经历Windows 7的大获成功之后，Windows 8缓慢的普及率对微软而言不是一个好信号。根据Net Applications的浏览器市场统计，Firefox市场占有率再次跌到20%以下，从20.44%跌至19.67%，Chrome从17.24%增至18.42%，IE从54.76%略跌到54.54%，Safari从5.33%回落至5.21%；Opera从1.67% 略增至1.72%。
