负责市场营销的微软高管Tami Reller宣布，上市15个月以来该公司共售出了2亿Windows 8许可证。这个数字涵盖了OEM和零售，不包括批量许可。微软去年5月宣布Windows 8售出了一亿许可证，销售速度还能赶上上一代的Windows 7，但之后就被Windows 7远远甩在后面：Windows 7在一年内售出了2.4亿，15个月售出3亿。也就是Windows 8同期销量比Windows 7少了一亿。Windows 7是目前市场份额最高的操作系统。
