《环球时报》英文版引用美国《世界日报》报道，两名中国游客因为携带中成药复方甘草片在洛杉矶机场入关时被拒，并被勒令在未来五年不得进入美国。此事在中国引发了热烈讨论。中国政法大学访问教授Zhao Guohua说，中国游客不了解美国对中医的监管法律，认为中国当局应该预先警告出镜游客携带中药的后果。广安门医院副教授Cui Yongqiang说，他也曾被美国海关检查过，称此类的检查并不是针对中国人或中药。美国海关及边境保护局表示，潜在会被滥用的药物不能进入美国，如旅客需服用，其所带药物仅限于旅途用。如果他们携带了有动物成分的药物，他们需要事先联系野生动物管理局。
