最新一期《经济学人》发表了《中国与互联网》特别报告(共九篇文章，需注册或付费或使用隐私浏览模式)，除了之前报导的《笼子》之外还有《猫与老鼠》，《隐蔽艺术》，《培训黑客的大学》和《关闭互联网》等。这些文章多数是总结性质的，没有多少新的爆料。如《猫与老鼠》一文介绍了中国政府开发的内容和过滤系统：屏蔽国外网站的防火长城和用于国内监控和过滤的金盾工程。前者的费用可能是国家机密，后者据说花费了超过16亿美元。国家级监控系统之外，当地政府也投资建立了监视本地网民言论的监控网络。有超过100家中国公司开发了至少125款监控产品，其中一家公司是北大方正。此外，非官方的删贴公司在中国也非常活跃，财新《新世纪》曾报导了从事删贴业务的公关公司雅歌。《隐蔽艺术》一文讲述了防火长城和北邮校长方滨兴，防火长城始于2000年的国家信息安全管理系统 Project 005，该工程在2003年获得了国家科技奖。文章还提到了前不久招募防火长城的工程师并为其进行辩护的复旦大学教授韩伟力。《经济学人》认为中国不太可能会关闭整个互联网，虽然互联网关闭开关是最后的手段，但同时也承认整个系统的失败。This entry passed through the Full-Text RSS service — if this is your content and you're reading it on someone else's site, please read the FAQ at fivefilters.org/content-only/faq.php#publishers.
